HOW TO PODCAST / WEBCAST  (This is work in progress)

What is podcasting?  Podcasts are files that can be placed on the web and distributed using a "feed" so that any person who subscribes to your podcasts would automatically receive the latest addition.  They are typically in MP3 format and can be downloaded to an iPod, MP3 player, etc.

What is webcasting?  The main difference between podcasting and webcasting is where you "store" your audio / video files.  Webcasts are files that are saved to a personal website.  People who want to listen or watch must access your files by clicking on a "hyperlink".

What are the basics to getting started?

STEP 1:  Begin by purchasing the necessary equipment, installing software, etc.

            -- digital voice recorder  ($50 - $100)
            -- MP3 player (you can avoid this if you purchase a Plantronics Microphone)

            -- headphone & microphone

           -- voice / audio editor such as GarageBand (free for Max users); Audacity (free for Windows users);
               or Mixcastlive

            -- iTunes (free) or Juice (free)

STEP 2:  Record your information.  Typical uses include student presentations, faculty or guest lectures, weekly wrap ups, review sessions.

STEP 3:  Upload your file(s) to your website.  (Watch video tutorials for how to do each part below)
                  a.  Import File
                  b.  Set Properties to Convert Files to MP3
                  c.  Rename Your File
                  d.  Convert to MP3
                  e.  Upload file to website
                  f.   Create Hyperlink to File
